Motherboard
DEFINITION
A printed circuit board containing the principal components of a computer or other device, with connectors into which other circuit boards can be slotted.
ABOUT MOTHERBOARD
A motherboard is the central or primary circuit board of a modern computer. It is also known as a system board or logic board. Most motherboards produced today are designed for PC-compatible computers. The basic purpose of the motherboard is to provide the electrical and logical connections for the other components of the system to communicate. A desktop computer is built with a CPU, graphics video card, sound card, hard disk controller, memory (RAM), and other essential components on the motherboard. Other components such as external storage, controllers for video display and sound, and peripheral devices are connected to the motherboard via edge connectors and cables, although in it is increasingly common to integrate these "peripherals" into the motherboard.
Choosing a motherboard can be an overwhelming task. The industry boasts an incredible variety of motherboard manufacturers and models, and each motherboard is compatible with either a specific Intel or AMD processor. Since the motherboard is the nervous system of your PC, it is important to do your homework by reading motherboard reviews.

COMPONENT OF MOTHERBOARD
CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
CPU (pronounced as separate letters) is the abbreviation for central processing unit. Sometimes referred to simply as the central processor, but more commonly called processor, the CPU is the brains of the computer where most calculations take place
COMPONENTS OF CPU
-CONTROL UNIT(CU)
-ARITHMETIC LOGIC UNIT (AU)
-A number of Registers
CONTROL UNIT
Control Unit controls operations of other parts of CPU as well as all parts of computer by sending a control signal. For example :
- control sequence of instruction to be executed control flow of data among all parts of computer
- interpret instructions
- regulate timing of processor
- send control single to and receive control single from peripheral devices
ARITHMETIC AND LOGIC UNIT
Arithmetic and Logic Unit consists of a complicated set of logic circuit and accumulator. It is mainly responsible for :
- Calculation
- Logical comparison and decision
HOW CPU WORKS
The CPU is centrally located on the motherboard. Since the CPU carries out a large share of the work in the computer, data pass continually through it. The data come from the RAM and the units(keyboard, drives, etc.). After processing, the data is sent back to the RAM and the units. The CPU continually receives instructions to be executed.
